Black and Yellow Field Spider

Dennis and I discovered this amazing creature the other day while we were walking the field. When I was a little girl, a spider like this one had made her web outside Gram’s garage. I named her Charlotte, of course. And although she didn’t spin me any messages, I did enjoy throwing ants in her web so I could watch her in action.

It’s interesting to look back and see my success at being able to hold two opposing states of being at the same time. On one hand, I felt fear and the desire to get as far away as possible. I’ll be honest, spiders FREAK. ME. OUT. I mean, look how menacing she looks! On the other hand, I also felt so much wonder and curiosity and awe towards her. Menacingly magnificent!
